Deepest Saitama. Train hell. How many years have we been doing this for. Jay Bailey back in the line-up. Old school. If only we still had the 'Eigotown' kit.

Two minutes gone: 1-0. It usually takes at least an hour to break down Sala, who will have had the hump at letting an up-and-under slip bobble all the way through to Paul Wadsworth, who cheekily prodded the ball home to leave Filet Mignon a little crispy around the edges.

Less than 10 minutes gone: 2-0. 'Ello, 'ello. Carlos Aranda (who else?) decided he was bored with playing keepy-uppy and smashed the ball over Mignon (more down his throat really but you don't want to get in the way of the Paraguayan's shots really) for a sexy second goal. Mignon grilled.

Shosuke Yamagishi, guilty of over-elaborating once or twice, jinked into the Sala box and was tripped, despite the howls of protestation, giving the referee little option but to point to the spot. Yamagishi himself rolled the ball inside the post to boil's Mignon's filet.

There was the odd scare at the back for BFC with Sala's extra size causing trouble from set pieces but BFC's keep-ball was 80's Liverpool at times, minus the perms and arse-clinging shorts.

Period two brought more of the same, Yamagishi causing problems for Sala but not for the forwards as he steadfastly refused to pass to options one through four lining up wide open in the middle. If only his brain matched his libido.

Yamagishi it was who made it 4-0 however, racing clear and tucking a tidy little dinker-donker into the far corner with Sala's over-stretched players now looking very tired and Filet Mignon frankly not what I ordered.

Shota Kikuchi, comfortably the smallest player in the world, let alone the TML league, wriggled clear to slip in number five for BFC with 15 minutes to go before celebrating with regular fan Paco Pomares, who towers over the pint-sized midfielder.

Jon 'the salmon' Day leapt (although you would have struggled to get a copy of the Daily Mirror under him, it was a 'leap') to head in a sixth to complete the rout and doubtless scare the living daylights out of the rest of the TML.

'We want our title back' as some joker famously said, before YCAC walked off with it!

And I'm spent. And I'm out of jokes about steak.

BFC wobbled but they didn't fall down. A soft penalty perhaps evening out Sala's lucky equaliser, BFC ground out a 4-2 win to reach the Cup final which they will want to play on a grown-up's pitch this time please!

[[File:BriAndCarlos.JPG|300px|left]]BFC put out their youngest side in many years with more under 30s playing than over 30s, but it was the over 30s who probably edged the battle of the BFC generations with an aging back line (average age closer to 40 than 30) keeping a deserved clean sheet and with Day and Himmer (we won't go there) both coming back from injury to show typical composure in their play.

To their credit Geckoes never lay down (do they ever?) and the game was still in the balance with 30 minutes left on the clock and BFC at 2-0 but with Geckoes still looking to force BFC onto the back foot. However, 17 year old roookie Jeff United keeper Bryan Yonanmine was always up to the task in BFC nets....a good keeper is worth 20 goals a season they say, Hitoshi from Hibs springs to mind. == Muzzy Steals the Show ==

It should be noted that Muzzy put in a fine performance at the mini tournament at Osaki ThinkPark on Saturday evening - at least off the park. Despite Team Muzzy finishing last in the 5 team tournament, he was not pointing fingers for long as he put in a solid shift at the bar, helping Footnik Osaki clear out some of their less frequently sold top shelf.

Reports of carnage later that evening at Muse at this point are unsubstantiated, but chances seem favourable given the task of looking after Muzzy was assigned to, among others, Graham, 'the voice of reason' Burt...

Congrats to Team Carlos who won on the night, and to Morson for the top scorer award. Cheers to Pabs for booking, James for organizing and to the Panthers for joining the club for what was an excellent evening. Look forward to the next one in the coming months.

After the 12 goal thriller last time (in which BFC secured the spoils) it was anyone's guess what the result of this game would be following a mixed start to 2010 for both teams. As it was, a devastating display of trickery in the counter attack from BFC's Shosuke was the main difference between the sides, though over the course of 80 minutes the difference was small. With the first half almost ending in farce and the second half ending more like a training match this was never a game for the purists. The 4-0 scoreline probably does do justice to BFC's dominance of the game but in fairness to Lions they battled well in defence and kept trying to take the game to BFC even when a few goals behind. 3 times we have done battle with the ‘basement’ team of the 2nd division and 3 times we have come out victorious but far from comfortable. It is a very good division.

==Vagabonds Brave Cold to Shrug Off Embassy==

Kit there, Evans there, going well……….but no bibs, unbeknownst to me Muzzy had apparently lost them. We play in red – Embassy play in red - they don’t have bibs. A bit like America’s foreign policy over the last 65 years…..nothing ever really goes as you thought it would. But YCAC stepped in to do a Jimmy Carter at Camp David and thus stop an all out battle over who would have to play in skins on this reasonably chilly Sunday evening.

==A day in the life of Evans==
Gradually comes to consciousness……realises slowly that not only is it Saturday but Vags also have a game, good news…..then realises that the game isn’t until 19:30, day gets better. Goes back to sleep. Gets up, has a cigarette…reflects on how lucky he was not to partake in the kitless, refereeless debacle of the previous weekend at Hachioji…this prompts an unwanted image of Ged and Darren playing in their cycling shorts….starts to feel slightly queasy, but a coffee and another cigarette sorts this out (just). Thinks about the Hachioji turf…..starting to show signs of wear and tear but always enjoys playing there…takes a nap.

==BFC Lose to Hibs But Not Without a Fight==
I think a neutral would say a draw would've been a fair result. I'm not neutral and think a BFC win was deserved. A missed PK, a blatant PK disallowed, the usual array of quality saves and sweeping by Hitoshi in the Hibs' goal and the final whistle goes after Sho is fouled on the edge of the Hibs' box...free kick...? Apparently not, final whistle. Sour grapes? Maybe.

==Vags 1-1 Panthers==
The first thing that comes to mind on meeting the Panthers this season is ‘what is the opposite of ‘pretty in pink’ because their kit just begs the question…

But, despite the look, we had also had a glance at the league table beforehand and in addition were greeted with the strange sight of a division two team actually taking a warm up seriously. (Or just actually warming up…which is the same thing really.) Phil Lowes is definitely finding life tough in the second division as his talk of ‘come on now let’s get together and do some stretching’………..was greeted with the usual ‘I’m off for a poo’…’phone just rang’…’look at those crows shagging’….(at least 5 dragged away)... ==BFC Win 12 goal Thriller==

This was always going to be an interesting game, but even the 12 strong crowd was not expecting a goal each.

For those interested, it went something like this:

BFC 1-0 down, then 1 all. BFC 2-1 down at half time. Then 2 all, followed by 3-2 up. Then 3 all. Not done there, 4-3 up. And then 5! Surprise surprise, let one in, 5-4. Hold on though, off we go to 6-4, then 7. Still time to let one in? Sure! Why not? 7-5. Final whistle. Utter madness. But a fun game, played in good spirit and well reffed too.

The vagabonds made it two wins on the trot/bounce/spin, whatever you prefer, overcoming the Barbarians by 3 goals to 2 at Hachioji koen. Taking to the field in a kit that smelled of cats urine the vagabonds dominated the first half in terms of posession and territory and at times played some splendid link-up football. Garry Robertson - the poor man's Steve Glenn- was imperious at the back mopping up any danger that came our way. Going forward, Graham Burt was always available at right back and Nao, Ian, Phil, Muzzy and especially Takuma were putting the Barbarians defence under extreme pressure. A decent performance from BFC on Saturday with a skeleton squad under terrible conditions. The ground was hard, bobbly and very dusty and the opposition were young, fit, had great movement and had grown up playing on these surfaces. The 1-1 end result was credit to a lot of effort from everyone and there is no doubt we should have won the game quite easily given the amount of chances we created - perhaps we would have if we hadn't been thrown off the pitch 10 minutes before KO. It had been over 12 months since BFC last played at Misato and in the week leading up to the game nobody was relishing turning out on the "cowfield" against a Geckoes side fresh from having chomped through Sala the previous week. == Bread and Butter back on the menu ==
After a stern warning from the skipper not to be late for the first game of BFC's season, the skipper (and the kit) promptly missed the train and turned up late...and so it was business as usual as another BFC season got underway - bread and butter was back on the weekend menu, with the Saitama Jets serving up the best Hanno had to offer. Despite missing 6 regular defenders, BFC's line up looked pretty useful with no fewer than 4 TML debutantes coming into a side that had 10 midfielders on display, shirts tucked in 'n all. As we've come to expect from Jets they were up for it from the off and set about their task with the usual level of fitness and commitment. A relatively impromptu gathering of certain Vags alumni as of a Friday evening in some subterranean area of fashionable Hammamatscho brought forth reminisces of self injury during childhood and later life. Assorted tidbits were: Axed himself in the forehead whilst chopping wood upwards / Tested how far his finger could go in a mangle before getting caught – it did / Attempting to solve a mysterious blockage in a science lab by running a Bunsen burner along the highly combustible filled tubing (goggles off cause it wasn’t cool) / Stabbing himself through the foot with a pitchfork whilst telling his younger brother that he was too young for this kind of thing……….Christ…it’s a wonder anybody in the team can kick the ball in the right direction, never mind score goals and win games.	+	[[Image:Ken_puts_it_away.jpg\|thumb\|400px\|right\|<center>'Ken sticks away peno #1'</center>]]Finally, after the ennui of the world cup (apart from the England bits – tee hee) we got back to the stuff that matters. The two pulled back were (if I have my order correct) a long ball down the right and far too much space given to the winger who finished well. Vags 5 – 3 Dutch

Finally, after the ennui of the world cup (apart from the England bits – tee hee) we got back to the stuff that matters. A relatively impromptu gathering of certain Vags alumni as of a Friday evening in some subterranean area of fashionable Hammamatscho brought forth reminisces of self injury during childhood and later life. Assorted tidbits were: Axed himself in the forehead whilst chopping wood upwards / Tested how far his finger could go in a mangle before getting caught – it did / Attempting to solve a mysterious blockage in a science lab by running a Bunsen burner along the highly combustible filled tubing (goggles off cause it wasn’t cool) / Stabbing himself through the foot with a pitchfork whilst telling his younger brother that he was too young for this kind of thing……….Christ…it’s a wonder anybody in the team can kick the ball in the right direction, never mind score goals and win games.

But we made it, as a largely unchanged squad, down to the YCAC for the season’s opener….a couple of key players have left, at least for now, 1 because of a combination of knee injury, buying a house & having a baby (well….involved in having a baby) – which is, I guess, fair enough. The other is because he has got a good job in Hong Kong – which is out of order really. Still we have to look on the bright side and a couple of recruits were to do very well on their Vags debuts. Toshi, who looked sharp, as well as getting a goal and Steve Good, who was more than very comfortable all through the second half.

When informed of the latter new addition one of the custodians of the club did actually pull out a cheeky little bit of repartee (he shall remain nameless, but for those who do the Sunday times cryptic – it is an anagram of Adrina Thomsa) – the old chestnut ‘Maradona good, Pele better, George Best’ can now be applied to the Vags ‘Ged crap, Wayne average, Steve Good’. Boom, boom….who needs morale eh?

Anyway, to the game…last season we had a life shortening plethora of nerves and ditto for goals – finishing a see-saw battle 5-3. Who would have thought it would happen again eh? My doctor won’t be happy.

Vags started off with their usual 3-5-2, not because of the tactical genius involved but more to do with the fact that we only ever have 3 defenders. Ever.

Things started evenly enough and it was apparent that the Dutch had recruited a lot and were a notch above their level last season. Very quick in midfield with sharp incisive passing – if they can keep this together they will do well in this league this year. It was 50/50 until Vags got the first of three penalties in the first half. Ken broke right and crossed and the ball caught/was knocked down by the arm of a defender...Graham inched forward to take the penalty but fortunately Ken stood firm and dispatched it into the net high left as he was standing. A second penalty followed after 20 minutes, again for handball, and Ken again stepped up – same place same result.

I was very impressed with the Dutch’s homework of how to play us – the perfect strategy is just give us a two goal lead and then watch us implode, pegging back the 2 is a given and then they’ll have their tails up and go for the kill. The two pulled back were (if I have my order correct) a long ball down the right and far too much space given to the winger who finished well. The second was a penalty – for what I am still not sure – anyway you know it’s softer than a witch’s tit when the opposition don’t even raise a shout. On the other hand we had had two and in some games wouldn’t have had any so perhaps a bit of evening up was the name of the game. It was put away with nary a wrinkle nor a teat.

The Dutch plan floundered though, as we then went ahead with a stonking header from Ollie off of a corner – bulleting back across goal and into the bottom corner from a difficult angle. Set pieces looked dangerous all night.

The Dutch rallied again, however, and after getting the break of the ball they finished superbly and it was back to 3-3. It wasn’t even half time.

The second half settled down and clear chances were much rarer. We were treated to a comedy moment when Wayne managed to get himself sent off when he was linesman. A bit of confusion over the job of linesmen in the TML led to an altercation with the ref and a bit of ‘foul and abusive language’ followed – yellow card….this wasn’t appreciated by Mr. Baxter and he said so fouly and abusively….red card. So…down to 11 men (?!) the game went on.

Takuma had been looking very lively after coming on at half time and he was to prove the decisive factor. Good pushing throughout by the Vags always threatened to pay off and Takuma stepped up with a sweet strike from 18 yards off the inside of the keeper’s right-hand post about midway through. Vags looked relatively comfortable though the Dutch were always lively in midfield.

In the final minute Takuma broke away on the left and the Dutch were exposed as they now had to push on, Takuma beat his man….there were claims he pushed yer man over two handed with both arms extended but, funnily enough, Fergusonesquely, I didn’t see the incident because I was tying my shoelace and scratching my arse whilst checking the pressure of the spare balls on the sidelines. I confess to hearing an awful thump when the non Dutch Dutchman hit the ground though. Anyway………………PLAY TO THE WHISTLE….and that is exactly what the good Mr. Ozeki did…drawing the defender before slipping a perfect pass to Toshi who drew the keeper and slotted home well…painting a rosy picture on a game etched with some really good play.

Worthy mentions should go to just about all for digging us through a tough opener but anyway, Tom was fantastic in the holding role and Ken was a lot more than a couple of penalties, obviously. Muzzy ran his socks off…..which was quite difficult because they were ensconced in some poofy looking pink boots and it’s worth another Takuma snippet of praise for his danger going forwards. Nice to see Pabs in a cameo Vags appearance too!
